Ward 25
Client Work
Ward 25 is a grass roots community group, representing Scarborough-Rouge Park, one of Toronto's most geographically and demographically diverse areas.
Deliverables:
-
Logo
-
Branding
-
Social Assets

To better understand the community, I asked Ward 25 put out a public poll asking what aspects residents felt best represented their neighbourhood. The most popular responses were: forests, nature, water (in the form of Lake Ontario and the Rouge River) and harmony in diversity.

The logo had to represent a lot, yet still remain simple. The icons represent those crucial elements and the colours are vibrant and energetic, just like the community itself.

As a small community group, Ward 25's current public home is on Instagram. The goal of Ward 25 is to provide outreach to the community, to inform residents of local events, and elections, as well as highlighting the many thriving businesses and parks in the area.

A clean, bold visual style dominates the Instagram posts in order to stand out and catch attention in the feed. The icon set is used as a recurring and recognizable graphic element, and the wave shape is echoed as a border for visual interest.

As a community-run group with little to no funding, it was important to create versatility in the advertising. Colour versions of the posters can be printed in small amounts by volunteers, but a graphic black and white version was a must to respect budget constraints.

As the group grows and hosts more events, the branding can easily be extended to items such as t-shirts and tote bags, which help to foster a sense of belonging in a group.
